Mesa Discovery, Greys Outbound-Greys Firehawk, finally got a move on. She recently won a TD at Sarasota. Was starting to wonder what she wanted in a track surface. She qualified at Lincoln but then doesn't like the surface at Sarasota a track she should dominate.
Mesa Bethann, Craigie Whistler-Tnt Stardust, won another TA 3/8ths race for the Steve Sarras kennel
Mesas Advantage scored a third in Grade A at VL
I've been reading how much we all need more imported sires in this country.
I'm hearing it from people who have a vested interest in getting those studs here.
On one of the boards I pointed out that Maryville Rumble, a dog that I have a Greyt respect for, hasn't gotten many breedings lately and that does not bode well for other imported sires.
All of a sudden I'm being accused of slandering a studmaster, not liking her and/or her dogs and gawd only knows what else.
The simple fact of the matter is this: I prefer American sires and always have.
Have I ever bred to imports? Of course! I bred to Black Aztec, Fortress*, Iron Rail*, Great Greyhound* and I don't remember how many others. Recently I bred to Heart Rumble because a friend offered me the breeding. Based on Maryville Rumble's success I thought it was a claculated risk and I'd do most anything for that particular friend anyway.
My current position is based on the results of those early matings. Simply put I wasn't happy with the overall quality
The argument then comes up about breeding your own brood stock. In many instances that makes sense. In this current econmic environment probably not so much.
You really need those broods to be good race dogs before you use them. Bloodlines alone are not enough of a reason to get puppies from a female
If I didn't sell as many pups to you all as I do I'd probably test out more theories. But I'm not certain that you want to sign on with me for a bunch of "Mark's theories". Instead, you're looking for winners, aren't you? Yup, I knew it and that's exactly what I'm trying to deliver.
Will I breed to some of thse imported sires? You bet! I like Trey United real well, just off the top of my head. A SweetTrey son with an imported dam line makes sense to me.
Besides, the owner of the stud is a good friend of mine and I value that friendship.
He helps me so why wouldn't I help him? Just makes sense on a couple of different levels.
The rest of this is just nonsense. This "conspiracy theory" mentality is downright stupid.
I wasn't thinking along those lines but now I'm wondering if there isn't fire now that I'm smelling smoke.
